Rules & Anti-Harassment Policy

Our goal as an organization is to create an environment where everyone can have a good time. Attendees and participants are expected to abide by the following rules during OCon.

-1- Wear your badge (preorder tickets) or wristband (day-of admission) at all times. If you leave the venue for any reason during the day, please leave your wristband on if you are planning on re-entering the show. We will gladly allow you to re-enter if you are wearing your wristband or badge.

-2- OCon is a large, public event and as such, photography is allowed and encouraged. The event also attracts attention from local media in the form of news crews and newspapers. By entering the event, you have a reasonable expectation that you may be photographed and/or recorded. Photos taken at the event may be used on the website, in print, or on social media sites. That said, we strive to be mindful of our attendees’ wishes. If you feel a photo of yourself at OCon on an official channel (our website, our Facebook page, our Twitter account, et cetera) has compromised your safety or made you otherwise uncomfortable, please contact us and we will be happy to remove it.

-3- Please understand that the schedule and guest lineup is subject to change due to circumstances beyond our control. If an announced guest cannot attend the show or will be late due to flight delays or cancellations, we will publish the information as soon as we know about it on our website and social media channels.

-4- If you are in costume, exercise common sense when it comes to your props. Any gun or weapon prop that is brightly colored plastic or foam is perfectly fine to bring. If your gun prop is painted realistically, make sure you have a plastic orange tip in the barrel so that it is easily identifiable as a prop. Our staff reserves the right to ask attendees to get rid of a costume prop if it is deemed unsafe. Finally, we reserve the right to ask you to leave if you are behaving in a threatening or unsafe manner with your costume or props.

-5- OCon is not responsible for any lost or stolen items during the event. If you do lose something, please remember that we have a Lost & Found. Many lost items are recovered by Lost & Found each year. If you leave your name and phone number with one of our staff members or friendly volunteers, we will do everything in our power to reunite you with your lost items.

-6- In the immortal words of Bill & Ted, be excellent to each other. We are fortunate enough to be part of a community of friendly, welcoming folks. A little courtesy goes a long way in a crowd or in a line, and respect for your fellow attendees is paramount during Q&A panels and open discussions. If you see anyone harassing or disrespecting others, please notify an OCon volunteer, staff member, or officer on duty.

-7- We reserve the right to ask anyone to leave if they are harassing others or being disruptive. No refund will be granted if your behavior results in your expulsion from the event.

Anti-Harassment Policy

The following behaviors are considered harassment and will not be tolerated at O Comic Con:

  • Physical assault or battery
  • Inappropriate physical contact
  • Intimidating, unwelcome attention, for any reason
  • Verbally harassing any attendee
  • Stalking or following someone around the event
  • Intimidating language or threats
  • Disrupting panels with chanting, sustained questioning with intent to intimidate, or any other disruptive behavior
  • Sustained, harassing photos or videos. While there is a reasonable expectation that photography will take place at a public event like OCon, there is absolutely no excuse for repeated, harassing photos to be taken of one person. There is a slogan in the cosplay community: “Cosplay is Not Consent.” Photographing or touching someone without their consent will not be tolerated at OCon.

If you have been harassed or see someone being harassed, please notify a member of our staff immediately. Engaging in these behaviors can result in instant expulsion from the event. No refund will be granted. If necessary, we will notify our officers on duty, contact local law enforcement, have the offender escorted out, and file a police report against the harasser.

Concerns about Harassment by Staff or Venue Staff

If you experience or witness harassment or inappropriate behavior by an OCon staff member or volunteer, a member of venue staff, or anyone else who is a working show participant, please consider taking the following steps:

  • If there is a staff member nearby and you feel safe doing so, please notify them and ask to speak with the OCon event coordinators.
  • Or please send an email to info@theocomiccon.com to notify us so we can remedy the situation.
  • If you are in a situation where your physical safety is urgently and immediately compromised, please inform the event’s on-duty police officers or CALL 911.

Zero Tolerance Policy

We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to harassment. Make sure you help keep OCon a safe and fun place. Be vocal when you see inappropriate behavior, and above all let us know so that we can remedy the situation.

Our channels of communication are always open to hear concerns voiced by our attendees and participants. Please contact us to share your concerns.
